Katelyn Rice (formerly Katelyn Graham) is an associate attorney focusing her practice on divorce, custody, and family law matters in Columbus, Ohio and throughout Central Ohio. She represents clients in both contested and negotiated cases, including divorce proceedings, custody disputes, parenting time matters, and paternity actions involving the establishment of parental rights.

Ms. Rice has experience representing clients in trial proceedings and contested family law litigation, including divorce and custody matters involving disputed parenting issues and complex factual circumstances. She has represented both mothers and fathers in custody disputes and has also represented third parties seeking custody or visitation rights.

In addition to litigation, Ms. Rice works with clients on proactive legal planning, including the drafting of pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, helping clients define financial expectations and protect assets in advance of or during marriage.

Her practice includes representation in paternity actions, assisting clients in establishing legal rights and responsibilities related to custody, parenting time, and support at the outset of a case. She approaches these matters with a focus on clarity, structure, and achieving workable outcomes for families moving forward.

Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Rice worked extensively with children and families navigating complex legal and social circumstances. Her experience as a Guardian ad Litem with CASA of Franklin County provided direct exposure to custody, placement, and visitation issues, as well as the investigative and evaluative process underlying recommendations made to the Court.

Ms. Rice also gained experience through her work with The Ohio State University’s Justice for Children Clinic, where she represented juvenile clients in delinquency and immigration matters. In that role, she worked closely with clients and their families to understand legal rights, evaluate available options, and develop strategies aligned with the client’s objectives.

Her background includes legal research and policy work through the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Domestic Violence Program, where she analyzed issues including protection orders, procedural reforms, and domestic violence-related legal frameworks affecting family law proceedings.

Through both academic training and practical experience, Ms. Rice has developed a strong foundation in family law litigation and client advocacy. She approaches each case with careful preparation, direct communication, and a focus on moving the case forward efficiently while protecting her client’s interests.

Early Experience and Court Involvement

While attending law school, Ms. Rice served as a Guardian ad Litem with CASA of Franklin County, working directly with abused, neglected, and dependent children. In that role, she conducted investigations and made recommendations to the Juvenile Court regarding custody, placement, visitation, and services designed to support the child and family.

She also served as a Teen Court Hearing Officer within the Franklin County Juvenile Division’s Diversion Program, assisting in proceedings involving first- and second-time misdemeanor offenses and helping participants understand the legal process.

Legal Experience

Ms. Rice’s legal experience includes work with the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Domestic Violence Program, where she conducted research on evolving issues affecting domestic relations cases, including protection orders and procedural considerations.

As an extern with The Ohio State University’s Justice for Children Clinic, she represented juvenile clients and worked collaboratively to develop case strategies and advocate for client interests.

She has expanded that foundation into active representation of clients in divorce, custody, and family law litigation, including courtroom advocacy and contested proceedings.
