Katelyn Rice is a passionate legal professional energetically driven to assist, serve, and inspire clients, co-workers and peers in the legal field. Her previous experience working with abused and neglected children as a Guardian ad Litem coupled with time as a legal intern for the Justice for Children Clinic at The Ohio State University, have given her insight into both powerful client work and rigorous professional demands.
Law School and Early Experience
Katelyn earned her J.D. from The Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law in 2022 with a certificate in Children’s Studies. Prior to that she earned a Bachelor’s in History from Purdue University.
While attending Ohio State, Katelyn became a Guardian ad Litem with CASA of Franklin County and worked with abused, neglected and dependent children and their families to find permanent solutions to their crisis situations by conducting an investigation to understand the child’s situation, in order to make fact-based recommendations to the Juvenile Court about custody, placement, visitation and services that could assist the child or family.
Katelyn also became a Teen Court Hearing Officer in the Franklin County Juvenile Division’s Diversion Program where she helped train and assist teens with first or second-time misdemeanors to complete the Teen Court Program by learning how the legal system works, complete dispositions given by their peers, and participate in mock trials as various members of the court.
Legal Experience
As a legal intern with the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Domestic Violence Program, Katelyn conducted research on various domestic violence issues such as bond reform, strangulation, wireless transfer orders and protection order petitions.
As an extern with The Ohio State University’s Justice for Children Clinic, Katelyn represented juvenile clients in the areas of juvenile delinquency and immigration. She helped clients and their families understand the client's legal rights and formulated a plan to proceed per the client's wishes.
Through studying and working in family law, Katelyn has come to appreciate the emotional demands and wide-reaching effects of family law. For this reason, Katelyn has chosen to devote her life to supporting and creating solutions for those families who find themselves in difficult legal situations.
